About the role:

The Assistant Controller is a full-time position that will be responsible for assisting the Controller in all facets of the company’s accounting activities. The Assistant Controller will work directly for and with the Controller to understand and learn about the day-to-day operations of the company. The plan for the right candidate is for the position to transition to the Controller position and succeed the retiring Controller. For hiring purposes, the time frame for this succession plan is approximately 2 years.

Assistant Controller Job Summary:

The Assistant Controller performs professional level accounting functions in the processing, maintenance and review of financial and accounting records. Responsibilities include processing monthly transactions pertinent to the preparation/organization of various financial forms, reports, and financial analyses. The Assistant Controller will be “hands on” in all accounting disciplines. They collaborate with the Controller with project invoicing, accounts receivable, and accounts payable activities. They will participate in the implementation/accounting transition to Acumatica accounting software. Assist in converting the current accounting processes in Sage 300 software to Acumatica software.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

· Process contractors’ payment applications for monthly billings

· Preparation of Owner Lien Waivers

· Extracting of monthly lien waivers to support billings

· Bank deposit recording

· Apply cash receipts to A/R

· Forecast of cash receipts

· Perform monthly close and related journal entries

· Reconciliation of bank balance to GL on weekly basis

· Assist in reconciliation of other general ledger accounts

· Credit card payments and reconciliation

· Process subcontractor payments

· Process subcontractor lien waivers

· Develop extensive knowledge of multi-state requirements

· Preparation of Financial Reports

· Cash flow forecasting and management

· Audit subcontractor compliance for W-9 and Insurance

· Assist with converting & reconciling balances from Sage Accounting software to Acumatica software

· Collaborate with accounting team wherever needed for overall success

· Assist with developing Best Practices in Acumatica

 

Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

· Extensive knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP) and accounting functions

· Strong understanding and adherence to confidential information policies and procedures

· Ability to stay on track with frequent interruptions

· Knowledge of subcontractor pay applications

· Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively deal and work with multiple colleagues and great follow up skills

· Thorough understanding of lien waivers

· Knowledge of sales and use tax accrual

· Knowledge of WIP calculations

· Strong verbal and written communication skills

· Analytical and problem-solving skills

· Ability to be flexible

· Ability to prioritize tasks

· Works independently AND with a team

· Strong management skills

· Strong work ethic

 

Qualifications and Required Experience/ Training:

· Bachelor’s degree in accounting or another related field. Experience may be considered as a substitute for this requirement

· Extensive construction Industry accounting experience

· 5 years of experience in managing others

· 10 or more years of direct experience or a combination of college and experience preferred

· Sage/Timberscan/Acumatica/Project or other construction tracking software
