Description Provide effective instruction to students in the classroom by preparing for each learning experience, providing supplemental materials to enhance lessons, and using effective evaluation methods to evaluate student performance in curriculum and continuing education courses.
Support student learning outside of the classroom by holding regular office hours, providing information about additional resources outside of class, and responding to emails and phone calls in a timely manner so as to promote student success.
Maintain teaching and work environment by maintaining equipment and supplies, ensuring overall cleanliness, functionality, and conformance to OSHA standards to provide a safe work environment.
Maintain accurate records such as attendance, grades, information for accreditation, and other important data and submit reports according to college policies.
Example of Duties - Create and carry out lesson plans to ensure industry relevant content in courses.
- Assess student learning outcomes
- Assist the Department head in maintaining an accurate inventory of program supplies.
- Teach according to department lesson plans and maintain proper record keeping.
- Classes may include: Engine repair, Manual and Automatic Transmission repair, Drivability diagnosis and repair, Basic and advanced Electrical diagnosis, and repair, Steering and alignment repair and service among others.
- Successful candidate must have the ability to operate diagnostic scanners and metering equipment associated with the automotive department
- Maintenance of classroom and laboratory equipment and training areas
Typical Qualifications Required: - Associates Degree (or higher) from a regionally accredited institution along with a Master ASE certification
- Work experience in Automotive related job such as:
- Dealership Technician
- Community College instructor
- North Carolina Safety and OBD inspection Instructor Certification
- Applicants are expected to demonstrate skills needed to communicate Automotive repair and diagnosis knowledge.
- Current North Carolina driver's license
- Ability to work well independently as well as collaboratively in educational/training environments
- Computer literate
- Must be ASE certified in the specific area of instruction.
Or...
- Associates Degree (or higher) from a regionally accredited institution OR
- a Master ASE certification OR
- Work experience in Automotive related job such as:
- Dealership Technician
- Community College instructor
- North Carolina Safety and OBD inspection Instructor Certification
- OR NC HIGH SCHOOL AUTOMOTIVE INSTRUCTOR
- Applicants are expected to demonstrate skills needed to communicate Automotive repair and diagnosis knowledge.
- Current North Carolina driver's license
- Ability to work well independently as well as collaboratively in educational/training environments
- Computer literate
- Must be ASE certified in the specific area of instruction.
Preferred: - Teaching experience
- Industry Recognized Credentials (ex. ASE Master Certification with "L1"(Advanced Electrical) Certification, TIA - Tire Industry Association, Certification , MLR -Maintenance Light Repair Certification, etc.
- Additional certification preferred.
Supplemental Information Supervision: The position reports to the Department Head of Automotive System Technology and will work in conjunction with the curriculum program.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday: from 8 am to 10:40 pm in (2 or 4 Hour lab Blocks, either morning , afternoon, or nights)
Some weekends or Saturdays may be required.
