Job Function Reporting into the Color Science Manager, the Color Scientist position will be based out of Ashtabula, Ohio. This role plays a crucial part in ensuring the successful design, development, and implementation of technical projects, while fostering a collaborative and efficient team environment. It will provide direct technical support to sales, customers, and other departments throughout the Americas region by:
- Color Technology leadership for support of the Americas region; as well as interaction with the global organization.
- Directly interfacing with customers to define and convert opportunities or to resolve issues, as assigned by the Color Science Manager.
- Designing, planning, executing and timely completion of project elements in the laboratory, as well as in customers' plants and laboratories, as appropriate, to meet customer requirements and expectations.
- Providing effective and timely communication at every stage of a project.
Responsibilities - Set a positive example with respect to safety and overall professional performance.
- Be the go-to-person for the region assigned for both internal and external clients for color science support to facilitate use of Vibrantz' colorant dispersions.
- Accompany commercial sales on customer visits for collaboration opportunities and/or development opportunities.
- Work independently and in collaboration with other team members to meet project goals with accelerated schedules and significant commercial impact.
- Advising and training customers regarding the use of colorants, color procedures, and color formulation software.
- Completion of Color Service requests in accordance with the schedule, providing notification if a delay is imminent. Is proficient in maintaining required record keeping including project entries and report generation as required.
- Acquires a thorough understanding of the available color formulation and QC software programs used routinely.
- Create and maintain color technology competencies in terms of instrumentation, electronic formulation tools, formulary files and color measurements.
- Possess and share in-depth knowledge of color technologies. Develops knowledge of colorant lines, pigment types, and resins/chemistries and their applications and stay up to date on industry trends, new technologies, and best practices.
- Maintains good housekeeping practices/applies 5S for assigned work area and all areas worked in.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Experience - Bachelor's degree in technical field required (Color Science, Physics/Math, ChE., Materials Science, and Chemistry preferred).
- 2+ years of industry experience in coatings in combination with color technology. Other industry experience may be considered in combination with a strong color technology background.
- Understanding of color theory, color measurement, color matching, color formulation software and spectrophotometers.
- Knowledge of critical chemical functionalities for coatings formulations including base resins, additives, and pigments for water-based, solvent-based, and 100%-solids coatings systems a plus.
- Strong communication skills - capable of providing presentations and to write clear and concise reports.
- Ability to analyze and solve problems, control resources, implement programs, and possess project management skills.
- Experience with Microsoft servers, Amazon client, coding experience, desktop sharing programs and knowledge of computing systems a plus.
- Adequate color discrimination skills per Farnsworth - Munsell 100 - Hue Test (will be evaluated).
- Availability and willingness to traveloccasionally, on short notice.
