About the Role
As Lab Manager, you will spend your time working on tasks related to lab management and operations support. You will interact with scientists, automation engineers, research associates, and the facilities team and contribute to activities that ensure the lab runs smoothly.
What You Will Do as Lab Manager
•Manages lab operations to achieve operational excellence and enhance productivity
•Oversee procurement for labs, ensuring consistent and reliable inventory acquisition
•Work with vendors to source consumables and maintain capital equipment (negotiating service contracts, PMs, repairs)
•Lead team of lab aides to maintain chemical and reagent stocks, consumables, and overall lab upkeep
•Maintain records of equipment, service reports, labware, and consumables
•Collaborate with team leads to support project goals and scaling needs
•Communicate with CEO and facilities team to address lab-related issues
•Perform QA and troubleshooting on liquid handlers (e.g. Analytik Jena, Opentrons, Tecan)
•Serve as liaison with EH&S consultant, managing chemical and biological inventory and biological waste, ensure compliance with BSL-2+ standards, FDNY, and OHSA regulations
•Collaborate with shared services (i.e. facilities, IT, finance) to maintain cold-storage alarms, supply chain systems, and maintain budgets
What We Are Looking For
Education:
•Bachelor's degree required or equivalent experience
Experience - Basic Requirements:
•A minimum of 3-5 years of practical experience in an industry or academic microbiology laboratory
•Demonstrated understanding of standard molecular biology lab operations
•Understanding of purchasing systems and procurement planning
•Working knowledge of Environmental Health and Safety lab requirements
Experience - Advanced Requirements:
•3-5 years of experience managing laboratory operations
•Experience with laboratory automation systems
•Experience developing experimental workflows and standard operating procedures
•Practical knowledge of high-throughput biological processes.
•Practical knowledge of laboratory facilities engineering; autoclave, industrial dishwasher, water purification systems and air compressors.
•NYC C-14 (Lab Operations) and A-35 (Air Compressor) certifications

•Excellent verbal and written communication skills
•Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
•Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
•Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate
•Ability to execute and thrive in a dynamic startup environment
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
•Role requires the candidate to be on-site 100% of the time
•Can lift up to 25 lbs
Compensation Range: The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $110,000 and $125,000 per year; base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and years of experience. We typically target mid-range for well-qualified candidates. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including equity and full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. Following employment, growth beyond the hiring range is possible based on performance.
