Job Description

Project Goals and Objectives: Hiring an intern historic preservationist to assist our exhibit specialist who led a team of preservation maintenance workers would allow the park to address deficiencies more quickly and appropriately and would ensure the work meets the Secretary of Interior's Standards along with any compliance mitigations.

Task Include: The park has Historic Structures Reports for all historic structures that would guide maintenance activities. The position would report to the Facility Manager, with guidance from the park's historical architect, to conduct preservation maintenance on historic housing, house museums, and exhibits. Duties include internship with the Park's preservationist and Exhibit Specialist to perform carpentry, painting, and masonry repairs, with an emphasis on preservation, restoration, rehabilitation of internal-external assets. Preservation work requires replication of historic items, utilizing highly skilled forms of craftsmanship, specilaized tools, and materials.

Qualifications: It is essential that applicants have a strong communication skills, maintenance background in hand tools, ability to work in outdoor environment and able to perform physical task to include lifting 50lbs, bending, stooping, and walking and working in outside elements.

Additional Qualifications:

• Must be between 18 and 24 years of age
• Must be U.S citizen, U.S permanent resident or U.S National
• Enrolled in post-secondary education program
• Must be COVID vaccinated

Work Requirements: Outdoor/indoor maintenance repair duties that include physical labor lifting 50lbs, walking, bending, and working in outside climate conditions.

Vehicle/License Requirements: The intern must have a valid state driver's license in order to be able to drive government vehicles. It is recommended that you have a personal vehicle. Dependable transportation to and from the park is required.

Participant Benefits:

• $18/hour
• 16 weeks (full-time)
