Middle School Spanish Teacher 

Start Date: August 2025

Location: The Bronx, NY

Job Summary

We are looking for a Middle School Spanish teacher passionate about the Spanish language and culture. Responsibilities will include creating a Spanish curriculum with speaking, writing, and reading foundations, history and culture lessons, and understanding of language as an expression of culture and identity. 

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Developing lesson plans and curricula based on the needs of individual students.

  • Providing conversational classes where pronunciation and important words and phrases are taught.

  • Teaching writing and Spanish composition classes.

  • Measuring and monitoring student progress to encourage the mastery of state/national standards

  • Conducting research on teaching methods, materials, and language games that can be used in class.

  • Scheduling and preparing students for oral and written examinations.

  • Providing suggestions for further learning and scheduling intervention sessions with struggling students.

  • Teaching students about Spanish culture, which may include history, festivals, traditional food, and dress, and social conventions.

Each of our teachers will be supported by: 

  • Attending a new staff orientation

  • Professional development sessions that target:

    • Working alongside students with disabilities, specifically students with high-functioning autism spectrum disorders

    • Conceptual understanding and planning using the Common Core Standards

    • Deep knowledge of the curricular programs used in the school

    • Delivery of instruction

    • Intensive methodology in scaffolding curriculum to meet diverse learners

    • Developing assessments to track effectiveness of lessons

    • Higher-order thinking

    • Inquiry-based learning

    • Classroom management 

    • Including families as partners

Educational Background and Work Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree (required)

  • Proven written and verbal proficiency in Spanish (required)

  • One year of teaching experience working an urban setting (preferred)

  • Knowledge around students with disabilities, specifically high-functioning autism spectrum disorders (highly preferred)
