Provides special medical and surgical care to Boys Town National Research Hospital patients and referral patients. Provides direct medical and surgical care and participates as a member of the multi-disciplinary clinic teams. Major responsibilities include providing direct specialty pediatric gastroenterology care to hospital patients, serving as a medical member of the multi-disciplinary evaluation and remediation team with special responsibility for the care of children with digestive system problems at Boys Town National Research Hospital inpatient unit or pediatric ambulatory care units. Designs and conducts clinical and/or basic research projects in area of specialty as approved by the Director, cooperates with other hospital staff in research projects, participates in educational programs in undergraduate and graduate medicine, continuing education, nursing, and allied health fields. Participates in development of program/project objectives and staffing needs. Undertakes special projects as directed by the Director. Requires ability to serve as a member of a multi-disciplinary team, apply research expertise, communicate effectively with patients, families, and staff, make assessments and problem solve, and keep complete records. Required qualifications include Doctor of Medicine degree from accredited medical school, certification by American Board of Pediatrics and in gastroenterology and nutrition from the American Board of Pediatrics Sub-board in Pediatric Gastroenterology, medical licensure or ability to attain in Nebraska, qualification for Creighton University Medical School faculty appointment and clinical hospital privileges, minimum three years pediatric residency training plus additional training in gastroenterology, hepatology, and nutrition including medical research and treatment of infants, children, and teens with digestive, liver, and nutritional disorders.
