Job Summary

Responsibilities
  1. Assists with and participates in all orientation, advising, and registration periods.

  2. Review academic transcripts with students to determine eligibility for transferring or graduation.

  3. Maintain student records and monitor academic progress and performance.

  4. Conduct academic intervention meetings with students and discuss plans for grade improvement

  5. Engage students individually and/or through small groups by initiating and maintaining regular contact to build rapport with students to develop academic goals and academic action plans.

  6. Develop, organize, and lead student workshops and/or create and disseminate information via multiple media on various topics, including, but not limited to self-efficacy, academic and career goals, learning strategies, financial and time management, and organization.

  7. Work collaboratively with EGSC faculty and staff to refer students to appropriate campus resources when academic intervention or support are needed.

  8. Respond to current and prospective students, calls, texts, and e-mails within a 24 to 48-hour timeframe when possible.

  9. Participate in professional development activities to remain current on policies, procedures, and best practices.

  10. Conduct classroom advising presentations during semester for Student Success and Learning Support classes.

  11. Teach up to 6 semester credit hours per academic year based on educational background.

  12. Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a bachelor's degree in a course of study related to the occupational field.

  • Experience and knowledge sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with six months of experience or service.

  • An equivalent combination of experience and education will be considered.

  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Two years in Higher Education, Student Personnel, Counseling, Advising or a related field.

  • Master's degree in Higher Education, Counseling, or appropriate academic discipline.

  • Knowledge of higher education systems such as Banner, EAB Navigate/GradesFirst, Brightspace D2L LMS, and Slate CRM.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Knowledge of coaching, mentoring, and teaching techniques.

  • Knowledge of current and emerging trends related to college students, student academic support, and student retention.

  • Knowledge of University System of Georgia and College policies and procedures.

  • Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.

  • Proficient skills in using Microsoft Office Suite or other similar programs.

  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written), time management and organizational skills with a high attention to detail.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders.

  • Ability to work well independently and collaboratively.

  • Ability to respond to supervision, guidance, and direction in a positive, receptive manner and in accordance with stated policies.
