Job Summary

The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for a Student Success Coach, HEP (Grant Funded) on the Gainesville campus. Under the general supervision of the HEP Director, the bilingual (English/Spanish) Student Success Coach for the High School Equivalency Program (HEP) at the University of North Georgia will provide academic, personal, and career intrusive coaching to help retain students and successfully attain on all UNG campuses. HEP is a federally funded program designed to support students from migrant and seasonal farm-worker background to obtain a GED. The program assists with both financial assistance and academic support services, with the goal of attaining a GED and sequentially, obtaining a job, enroll in post-secondary education or enroll in the military. The coach will collaborate with various institutional and external partners to provide student workshops, programs, and services to achieve student retention and post GED placement. Local travel may be required to help with recruitment and retention purposes. Position re-appointment is contingent upon reaching assigned goals, successfully meeting all job responsibilities and the continuation of grant on a yearly basis. Must be flexible. May work on some weekends and evenings. This is a grant funded position.

Responsibilities
  • Successfully build rapport with HEP students by monitoring student progress and providing individualized intrusive coaching for personal, career & academic matters.
  • Coordinate and execute all workshops and develop Placement Action Plans (PAPs) for post GED attainment. Collaborate with other HEP staff to assess student progress and to revise Individual Learning Plan (ILP) for participant's success.
  • Plan academic interventions to reach grant student retention goals by collecting data, collaborating with staff, and other project partners to provide appropriate retention student and success services.
  • Collaborate with various institutional and external partners to establish connection for post GED placement; maintain records of post placement and HEP graduates; assist in the participants selection process.
  • Contribute to the planning of HEP student cultural trips and HEP graduation; assist in social media posting when appropriate.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Knowledgeable about higher education processes and student development is preferred.
  • Must have strong computer/technology, social media, and Microsoft Office skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A strong background as a team player.
  • Ability to work under minimal direction/supervision to meet deadlines, follow through, and fluctuating workloads.
  • Ability to be organized, manage multiple tasks, and prioritize duties.
  • Ability to demonstrate empathy towards the plight of migrant/seasonal/agricultural work and life.
  • Ability to develop, implement, and facilitate student retention strategies; engage participants, university staff and partners; assess participants' learning needs; and monitor data.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree required; majors in higher education, college student affairs, administration, adult education, social work, counseling, human services, educational leadership.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English is required.
  • Valid Georgia Driver's License and reliable transportation.
  • Experience in developing student success strategies required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree preferred.
  • One year of experience in serving underserved and disadvantaged students through community outreach, counseling, adult education, or direct student engagement in an academic environment is preferred.
Proposed Salary
  • The minimum starting salary is $38,147.
